little squares

I remember things through imagery.

Before I could freeze time in little tangible squares there, and the intangible yet eternal ones on here, snapshots would float in my mind.
Little glimpses of a memory caught on mental film.

For all you sentimental scrapbookers and passionate photographers out there, I know you know.
I know why you’re still here, too.

A way to remember the feeling,
should memory fade.
To return to a moment,
if only for a moment again.
For come what may,
the little squares live on.

the art of doing nothing.

There’s a certain way the light hits the side of a building
warm rays bouncing off in a pool of light that make you stop and remember the feeling of another moment & a cozy wash comes over you, nostalgia for some small space in time you once occupied
a blip of an instance
Sweet, distant, but familiar.
The scent of the air, the buzz of the afternoon glow.
Was it another dream or some day from a year you can barely recall but a place you’d recognize in an instant?
It all blends together
Honey & wheat & warm milk
when you hold onto memories like gold
to replay when the scenery is a little dull
or perhaps, reminiscent of another time.

Funny thing, they are, these flashbacks. They seem to come more at the change of a season,
the signal of a themed phenomenon about to replay again.
So your mind goes searching for another time you felt this way. The cycle repeats.
No, not now- logic is too precise here.
I’d rather leave it in the haze.
It’s nice to have some pleasant mystery to come find me again.
it feels like coming home

What to Wear: Day to Night

When you’re a college girl on the go, you need a comfortable, stylish and transitional outfit to outlast your busy day. From morning classes to dinner with friends, you’ve got a lengthy to do list and no time to waste with wardrobe changes. How many times have you wished you had something to throw on in two minutes flat but look incredibly put together?

I present to you: the jumpsuit. Fashion’s most versatile one-piece wonder is vastly underrated. With origins in the 1920’s, this striking silhouette symbolizes both power and grace still today. Timeless modernity is the pinnacle of dressing. Think of it like the shirt dress’ jet-set older sister; smart and composed, with double the sophistication and a little bit of sass.

This piece is perfect for our busy Fashionista here as she is out and about from dawn to dusk. Her bohemian printed jumpsuit looks as effortless as it does chic which is just what one needs for a day to night look. Accessories are simple here with oversized sunnies, neutral sandals and a crisp bag with a fun puff keychain. The icing on the cake is her subtle jewelry that accents the beading on the bodice of the jumpsuit.

One Simple Change: Is an interview or class presentation squeezed into your schedule? Add a blazer atop the jumpsuit for instant business polish in no time. Sophistication and comfort with minimal effort, that’s day to night fashion done right.

Style Advice of the Week: Quirky Prints

As the summer heats up and temperatures soar here in Savannah, fashion has never been more fun. The youthful spirit of the season soaks into us all like the sun’s relentless rays and now our best looks come out to play. Summer has always been a great time for personal style and this Fashionisto couldn’t agree more.

The star player of this look is the printed button-down shirt, taking us to the heart of everything summer. The linen fabrication is a season classic. Not only does it keep him cool in the heat of the day, but the quirky island map print really makes a statement. I was instantly drawn to the fun little graphics. It’s a current take on those cheesy (yet oh so lovable) Hawaiian shirts of the dad and grandpa variety. He actually found his entire look at a local thrift store! The result is a feel that is equal parts retro and modern, two styles this Fashionisto enjoys to mix in his wardrobe. Quirky graphics are taking the menswear scene by storm this month as fashion week rolls out cool and quirky prints as seen at Kenzo. And to top it all off, we’ve got great neutral accessories such as this TKO watch that grounds the look while keeping the shirt the main feature of this summer stunner.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Style doesn’t have to be expensive. I prefer shopping second hand because you find more unique things. Find a style you like and wear it! Don’t get dressed to please other people, do it for you.”

What to Wear: Vacation

Time to trade in textbooks for tans and stress for sunscreen… summer is here at last! With the end of the school year finally behind us, it’s time to kick back and relax, which may include hopping on a plane or hitting the road on a vacation getaway. Headed someplace warm and sunny? This Fashionista’s got the right idea.

When dressing for a warm destination, you need a look that is cool, comfortable and carefree. Check, check and check! From head to toe, this Fashionista is a laid back bohemian giving off good vibes. Her straw hat protects her face while she’s out and about on her sunny excursions. The embellished crop top and distressed high-waisted shorts keep her cool in the heat of the day without sacrificing style. With Birkenstock-type sandals, she can be comfy all day long.

Accessories always tell a story and really create the mood of a look. To add a personal touch, her wrists full of bracelets are reminiscent of bygone camp summers. Not to mention that hair wrap—a vacation staple that is lovable then and now. All in all, this look is perfect for a sunny vacation. Be it riding a bike, walking the beach or sightseeing the town, this Fashionista is ready for wherever the day takes her while living life on island time.

One Simple Change: Want to grab brunch to eat after a day of exploring? If fine dining is on your mind, trade out the shorts for a flowing maxi skirt, the flat sandals for fun wedges and add a little sweater. A sweater, you ask? When the AC gets chilly, you’ll thank me later. Here’s to sunny summer getaways in style!
